Etosha turns game viewing into waiting: the pan’s edge funnels everything to a string of springs and borehole waterholes, and the parks board lights the main camp waterholes all night — a rhino at your braai-side bench is a normal evening. The park divides naturally: the east (Von Lindequist/Dolomite corridors) is classic dense game; the west (Galton Gate) is emptier, prettier and less visited. Self-drive is superb on graded gravel; guided drives run from every camp.

What to pack

Dust and sun dominate: buffs, camera covers, cool-box water. Cold June–August mornings on open vehicles (fleece + windbreaker), bird book for 340 species. Rest camps have fuel, shops and pools — book a year ahead in season.

Park fees

Entry ≈ **N$100 (~US$6) per adult per day** plus per-vehicle fee — startlingly good value; camping/lodging at resort camps is separate (NWR bookings). Fees change — verify with Namibia Wildlife Resorts/MET.

Wildlife safety

Stay in vehicles outside camps — elephants here have right of way on every track. At night inside camps, carry a torch; rhinos and lions use the lit waterhole paths too.

A flagship park: expect higher park fees and premium lodges, and plan further ahead in peak season.
