The park splits around the Nile: the north bank (Paraa side) carries the bulk of game — giraffe, buffalo, oribi, Jackson’s hartebeest and recovering lion numbers — while the river itself is the main event. The launch cruise from Paraa to the base of the falls is one of Africa’s classic boat trips, and the hike to the top of the falls (where the entire Nile squeezes through the gorge) is unmissable. Most travellers stop at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary on the drive up, completing the Big Five.

What to pack

Sun protection dominates here — the north bank is hot and shadeless. Light long sleeves, hat, and a dry-bag for camera gear on the boat. Malaria prophylaxis advice applies year-round.

Park fees

Park entry ≈ **US$40/day** (UWA), launch cruise ≈ US$30, top-of-falls hike US$15 (guides). Ziwa rhino trek ≈ US$50 separate. Prices drift — confirm with UWA or your operator.

Wildlife safety

Hippos are the park’s most dangerous animals — stay in vehicles near the river and never walk the Paraa bank unescorted. Tsetse flies bite in the Budongo forest belt; long sleeves beat repellent.
